Following Through

The ‘follow through’ in sports swings and throws has long been heralded as extremely important and critical to performance success. I’d like to look at some of the spiritual elements involved in following through in the coming weeks.

First, our foundation to “go” from is the Word of God. We are going to live by the Word. It is the authoritative manual that we will go by. “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” Heb. 4:12.

The Word is a primary way God speaks to us. “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.” 2Tim. 3:16.

We are to employ the Word as we go. “Preach the Word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching.” 2Tim 4:2.

The Word is to put our faith on the go. “But be doers of the Word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.” James 1:22.

We should be much more than just talk. “For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.” James 2: 26.

It takes active faith to please God. “But my righteous one shall live by faith; and if he shrinks back, my soul has no pleasure in him.” Heb. 10:38.

Let’s not be of those that allow fear to paralyze them because of what might go wrong or fail. Let’s be of those that are excited about the possibilities of positive performances. Let’s be curious of what we might be able to do and accomplish with God’s help and power. Let’s actually follow through in what the Lord has called us to do and go for it. We’ve got one shot at this life. Are we going to take it?
