AFC Meeting 06/01/02
Wild at Heart by John Eldredge
Josh waded into the shallows and felt the cold water envelop his small feet.  A rare summer morning rain steadily fell, bringing much needed monsoonal moisture to the mountains.  He gripped the grunnels and hopped aboard while his dad steadied the stern of the cedar-strip canoe.  It was the maiden voyage of this hand-built craft they had spent over 100 hours constructing together.  His dad shoved off with a hefty push and simultaneously entered the boat as the captain.  With paddles in hand, the current carried them downstream into the unknown.

"You are standing on the brink of what could be the greatest adventure you've ever known...and your fiercest battle.
"When it comes to the story of your life, and how it will be told ages hence around the campfires of the kingdom, the central chapter will be your masculine journey.  That journey is the essential quest of your life, whereby you recover your true heart, discover your real name, and find your place in the battle.  Everything else flows from there.
"It's hard.  It's scary.  And it's worth it.
"There is a life that few men know... a life so rich and free, so dangerous and yet so exhilarating in its impact that if you knew now what you could have, you would sell everything to find it.  But you have a sense of it even now, from the echoes in your heart, the hints in your deepest desires, the Voice that has been calling you for a long time...
"Behind is the life you've led, ahead lies your destiny." (John Eldredge, Wild at Heart.)
