AFC Meeting 05/25/02
* Amarillo Firefighters for Christ wish to thank everyone for their prayers and support as we celebrate one year of service.  The following is hopefully one of many summaries to come as we dive into the journey of "Wild at Heart" by John Eldredge.  I pray that everyone would stand strong in the gap and accept the exciting challenge to know and experience the adventurous life that God holds for them.
Josh exploded from a tripod stance at the shout of "Hut!".  His slender, eight-year-old frame was complete with full pads, uniform, and helmet of his pee-wee football team.  He sprinted downfield and dove into the endzone--his dad's legs as he sat in the recliner.
"Daddy, I'm confused." he said breathlessly through his facemask.  "On VH1, Pink says she wants to be someone else, but Britney says she just wants to be herself.  Who am I supposed to be?"
"Well for one, you shouldn't believe everything you hear on tv." he said, folding his book in his lap.  "But I think neither are the correct answer.  Romans 12:1-2 says, 'Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God - this is your spiritual act of worship.  Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.  Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is - his good, pleasing and perfect will.'"
"Sounds pretty deep." the boy's brow furrowed in thought.
"It is.  Trust me; it is.  You know how we are lucky to have four seasons around here?  Each season brings about different involvements with school and sports.  With each new season we have the opportunity to reflect on our lives and make the choice to follow God even as our schedules and activities are to change.  It is a time to reconect and aim high, keeping our sights on God.  That's how we "transform and renew our minds"." his dad explained.
A sparkle dashed across Josh's eyes as he grinned, "Got it coach!  I'm goin' deep!"
