"One thing to remember, Davey," his Grandpa leaned back in reflection. "even Jesus took time regularly to get away and be alone with God. It goes back even to the beginning of creation when the Lord rested on the seventh day. It is something He had built into life itself. We can get too caught up in 'doing' things. Even good things can be burdensome on a schedule if it just leads to busyness. Jesus invites us to draw near to Him on a regular basis and just be quiet in His presence. You see, when we are in His presence, nothing else could possibly compete with it. It is just too great. And He wants us to know how great He really is. It is in these times where we really start to sense His love for us and how deep it goes. It is a time of cleansing and renewal, like going to a crystal, clear pool of water and jumping in. It is also a time of healing of pains and scars from our wounds and worries. It is a time of empowerment, for once we have been in His presence and filled with His Spirit, there becomes no more of a dangerous creature as thus. Then we are ready to go out into battle and chase down our dreams. Nothing can possibly defeat us."
Davey shook his head, smiling in agreement. "This keeps coming up in church, in the Bible, in Bible studies, everywhere I turn. It's the message from the Lord that there is nothing more important than that intimate, personal relationship with Him. It is what He wants most from us and with us. Everything else seems to fall under that. I know it is true, Grandpa. You know what I am going to do? I am going to start making sure that I get away at least once a week to be alone with the Lord and just be with Him. I want it to be a regular part of my schedule. You help me stay accountable with that, okay?"
His grandpa chuckled his airy, rough cackle of a laugh, and grabbed him by the back of the neck. "You got it, boy. You got it."
