"You know, there was a kid many years ago that decided to do nothing because he figured that if he was afraid, he shouldn't do anything.   He thought that it would be the right timing if he was full of confidence.   The fear just never left.  It kept him paralyzed...unengaged.  Also, he just felt unworthy, like he wasn't at the point where he could step towards doing anything for God.  Maybe he could work toward getting his life under control and then he could be pure enough to be used by the Lord.
"It was all wrong, Davey.  All of it was just an illusion: a lie soaked in the world's wisdom and not the truth about God.  This kid suffered needlessly for years, wallowing around in self-pity and condemnation, wishing he could be more, do more.  The shame of wasting his life was toxic to his soul.  It just wasn't fair that he couldn't break free of this destiny of being just a mediocre loser.  He missed out on so many opportunities to live his dream and walk with the Dream Giver.
"That kid was me, Davey.  I didn't step into the true light until my golden years.  I am thankful that God delivered me from that bondage of how the world looks at success.  He brought me into His measure of success:  the truth of who I am because of who He is.  Now I am walking in Him with complete peace and freedom in His presence.  That is the only way I can be the support you need for your journey.  Because I am aware that the Dream Giver is always moving and planting seeds for His work to build His kingdom, I constantly watch and hope for seeing Him in action.  Then when I see Him working you over, getting rid of your "self" more and more, I celebrate in my heart because I know He is erasing you and molding a warrior for Christ."
His grandpa's words were like oil pouring over his head, completely pacifying and healing his troubled spirit.  Davey had just held his best friend in his arms and watched him breathe his last after the vicious battle with the sniper.  He let the counsel soak in and he let his soul dwell there.  He closed his eyes and breathed deep the peace and love that this elder shared with him.  They rocked away the morning in their squeaky chairs, enjoying each other's company in the calm country setting.
