It's all to easy to get Gold Fever and get excited about the prospect of prosperity and good times. It happens to the best of us. Every parent wants to see their kid do well. Every coach wants to see their athlete do well. But there is a danger in predicting and assuming. There is a warning about even pursuing worldly success. "Now listen, you who say, 'Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.'" James 4:13. We need to be careful with making our own plans. We need to learn humility. We need to make humility a strong and powerful force in our lives. Pride is sick and twisted in our human nature. It's a very tricky and deceitful adversary. We should be keenly aware of it's ploys. Watching the movie The Greatest Showman, I was reminded of a man that strayed off course, pursuing more and more riches and popularity. Then, there is that giant humbling point in his life, where he realizes the error of his ways, repents, and returns to the pure attitude of where he started. He sings, "From now on, these eyes won't be blinded by the lights...". Glory belongs to God. When we pursue it, we are headed for a fall.
"Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time." 1Peter 5:6. God has a good plan for your life. He also knows exactly what's best for you, at the proper time. He doesn't want you to be destroyed by pride or anything else the world offers. Trust God with everything. Let your requests be made known to Him, but then be content with His answers. Stay humble and focused on Him. If He allows worldly success, pray you are strong enough to remain true and faithful to Him. Be committed to point to Him and tell the world about His love.
