Life. It was created by God and recorded in Genesis. Mankind was the last of His creation process. Gen. 2:7 says, "the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed life into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being". The Jews are keen on this fact that it is God's breath of life in us. May we catch on to this truth. How many of us need reminding that our breath is evidence of God's very existence? He is the source of our life. It started with Him, by Him, and it is for Him. He is getting glory from His creation. Why won't we join in the song of praise?
We are students of life. Deut. 30:11-20 describes the offer of life and death set before us. I encourage you to read it slowly and digest the situation at hand. I like the fact it mentions that this is not too difficult for us to get. In fact, He has written it into the design of life that we would be very capable of this by the power of His spirit. This is very possible for us to attain and is practically expected and hoped for by God Himself! I imagine even the angels and saints are excitedly anxious about our choosing! I picture the arena full of loud, boisterous fans like at our Super Bowl, raising fists and shouting out, "Come on!" What will you choose?
Ah, to love the Lord your God, to walk in His ways, and keep His commands. It sounds like the Garden of Eden to me. It sounds like life as God intended it to be in the first place. I propose we allow this life to happen here on Earth even now.
But if you turn away, disobey, and follow other Gods, well that leads to...death. And I think this is where our problems lie: if we don't practice surrendering our lives to Christ, that means we maintain ownership; therefore, we turn away from God's path and raise up idols. How many idols are we building, harboring, obsessing over? These idols dissolve over time as we practice putting Christ as Lord of our hearts. Remember, He is the source of our life and is going to get glory from it. Allow Him the reins for He truly reigns! His life in us will slowly move us away from any selfish idols we have growing. Don't be afraid. Be strong and courageous, for He is good. He can be trusted. His life in us is the best possible life we can have during this short time on the planet.
Choose life that you and your children may live. Love the Lord and hold on to Him, for He is holding on to you. The Lord is your life. Choose it today, then tomorrow, choose it today, then do it again the next day. Keep going and don't ever give that up.
