Ring of Fire

Why is silence so awkward?  Maybe because we are so unaccustomed to it these days.  Indeed, we fill our time with all kinds of noise, don't we?  Phones, TV's, movies, pagers, emails, radios, books, etc. all provide endless noise to our minds.  And we end up spending more time worrying about the confusing details of tough circumstances instead of hearing from God.
We are saved by God and left here for a purpose:  to live and tell the story of Love; to spread God's message to all who will hear and receive true freedom from their bondage.  I am convinced that if we weren't left here for that reason, God would take us home to heaven.  But how can we hear God's leadership and direction for who we should visit with, or go to, or when?  Only by the prompting of the quiet voice of the Holy Spirit will we know where and how to move.  That is where God speaks and is heard by our hearts:  in the silence.  God invites us to be still and know He is God.  He invites us to have peace no matter our circumstances.  He promises us rest from the tiring battle.  He comforts us in giving us an identity as a child of God.  He reveals how big He is and how much He loves us.  He reminds us that we are going to win and only by HIs love is "how".  All of this happens when we discipline ourselves to "get away" from it all and remove the noise of the world.  Jesus, himself, regularly went away to a quiet place of solitude to be alone with His Father in prayer.  Here God refueled him and gave him guidance by his Spirit.  The same is true for us, but we must discipline ourselves and commit to investing in this practice so God can tell us what He wants us to do as well as what He doesn't want us to do.
May we all get tough and daily be quiet before the Lord.  May we make time to empty ourselves and our selfish activities long enough so God can speak to us.  He's got work to do on us as well as others, and He yearns to use us to get it done.  May we have ears to hear and eyes to see.  Let Him be God.  Let Him show you who He is.  Let Him show you who you are in His eyes, for that identity is who really matters.
