Note: The Amarillo Firefighters for Christ will be going on a mission trip to New York City at Ground Zero Jan. 15-20. We will be praying with, counseling, and comforting those grieving (firefighters, police, construction workers, citizens). We also will be attending any funeral/memorial services during those dates. We will be visiting outside fire stations as well as serve food and drinks to workers at Ground Zero. We would appreciate everyone's prayers and supports as we will be representing Amarillo Firefighters for Christ. Thank you.
If you were able to wake up, go through the day, and lay down at night knowing that you were right in the center of God's will, living that fulfilling life that He so desires for you, what would you call it? ...Heaven! We look forward to that day when we will be at complete peace with God. Until that time we are called to do the best we can to live a Godly life and attempt to become more Christlike everyday. Why would anyone want to do that though? The source of our motivation came to earth as a man about 2000 years ago and dealt an uneven trade to us. Jesus, without fault, bore our sins and in exchange gave us the ability to come close to God, thus bridging the previous gap that rightfully separated us from His righteousness.
Considering that He paid the price for our sins and provided a way for us to spend eternity in heaven, why can't we take 30 minutes out of our day to give to Him in a personal quest to really know God? This is the focus of the workbook study we will be going through after we return from our mission trip to New York. It is designed to bring the power of God into a reality down to even the small parts of our lives - to help us become more Christlike in our ways. This is what pleases God. This is "Knowing and Doing the Will of God", the title of the Experiencing God Workbook.
"Where were you when the world stopped turning?...", the Alan Jackson tune asks, referring to the September 11 attacks. Everyone knows where they were and what they were doing when the horrible news came through. In response, everyone would like to give a part of themselves to assist in any way possible. We, as Firefighters for Christ, will be traveling to their tragic scene with I Corinthians 13 in our minds. It describes the many attributes of Love, thus it describes God himself. We will be of the mindset to share the love of Christ to anyone we might contact. For anything great that might come from those seeds of love we will give God the praise and credit. To God be the glory.
