Meeting 4/25/20

Col. 3:1-4.

The title of this section is "Living as Those Made Alive in Christ".  What follows is very solid counsel and direction on how we should live.  These are practical applications of our faith.

"Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.  Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.  For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.  When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory."

The Holy Spirit eludes first and foremost to our identity.  If we are indeed saved Christians, then we should be pointed in a certain direction and be of a certain bent.  It references the salvation experience of death, burial, and resurrection.  It's got Easter threads throughout.

In just a few short sentences, the language remains simple, but prove deeper than we can imagine.  Since we are saved, our hearts ought to be looking heavenward.  This is our bent.  This is what we are about.  This is us being about the things that are important to God.  Our minds ought to be on things above as well.  This is our perspective and attitude.  This is our offense and defense.  This is the lens through which we look at the world and circumstances.  We are not our own anymore.  Christ bought us with the price of His own blood.  We are His now.  Our lives are interlocked within His existence.  This whole passage encourages us to start thinking and acting that way.  Let's take our eyes off of these present, earthly challenges and focus unto Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith.
