9.  Show Me Your Faith

 (James 1:22-24; 2:14-19)

Smoke rose in the distance, and something caught my eye.

I saw an old man down, and heard his muffled cry.

His story was familiar, and I thought my past was now.

I felt that he knew me, yet I didn’t know how.

His face hid by the shadows, as I knealt down by his side.

Then I saw his fire, how it burned with no wood in sight.

I heard him ask if I believed, and with a nod, I said, “Yeah.”.

Well, he just kind of laughed and said, “Even the demons know that!”.

Show me your faith and I will give you my light.

Let it glow upon your face and shine in the night.

Show me your faith; there is something you can do.

Won’t you come into this fire and let it burn within you?

He handed me a mirror, “Tell me what do you see.”.

A face that I’d forgotten, but it seemed to resemble me.

He said, “This ground is different.”; that he threw away his shoes.

Every day he tries to fight, each day just to lose.

“Go near if you dare and see if you can stand.

See if you will ever hear, yet never understand.”

How’d you get so far away?  And when did you get so cold?

It’s time you turn around and walk with Me down that winding road.
